From the first picture of the men standing near ashtrays at the entrance of Paddington Station (London) to the last photo, there has been a profound evolution. What was once a tolerated, and at times even encouraged, behaviour has gradually become more restricted and regulated.

While smoking used to be permitted almost everywhere, today smokers are confined to designated areas or special rooms to avoid disturbing non-smokers.
